前回はバンコクでおすすめする日本食についてご紹介しましたが、今回は日本食やタイ料理以外の様々な国のレストランをご紹介します。私はバンコク在住歴８年以上で、共働きかつ会社経営者でありながら子育てもしていますので、大半は外食で賄っており、そのため様々なレストランを試していますので、この５選は自信をもっておすすめできると思います。 1. Dooraee 韓国料理 - BTS Nana 予算 500+ THB / 一人 韓国街の中心にある韓国料理が立ち並ぶビルの中にあるお店ですが、お通しのごま油の効いた唐辛子サラダは辛くはないものの旨味があって食欲をそそります。韓国料理屋さん特有の無料で配布される小皿の白菜キムチ、大根キムチ、ポテトサラダ、味付き小魚、大根の酢漬けなどなど、全てが美味で味付けがちょうど良く、ご飯もふわふわもちもちで、少々値段を奮発してでも行きたくなる味です。チャプチェやチヂミの味付けも最高で毎回注文しています。 肝心のお肉もブルコギや豚肉など全て美味しく量もあり、目の前で焼いてくれます。東京では韓国料理がおいしいと思ったことがないのですが、海外に行くと韓国料理が抜群においしく感じることが多く、このお店も例外ではありません。ビルの１階から３階までを占めており、予約は要りませんがピーク時は15分ほど待つこともあります。少々贅沢してでもおいしい焼肉が食べたい、栄養補給したい、と思ったらここで間違いありません。BTSアソーク駅から徒歩5分、地下に駐車場もあります。 2. Chefman Sathorn 飲茶  BTS Surasak 予算 600+ THB / 一人 特別な日に贅沢したいといった時などにおすすめなのが、イーストングランドホテルのビル内にあるChefmanというミシュランガイドにも載っている高級飲茶です。厳かな入口を入ると天井が高く高級感のある上品な空間でラウンドテーブルがある席に案内されます。素材も調理も素晴らしく何を頼んでも大体おいしいのですが、個人的にはあんかけチャーハンがおすすめです。全く辛くないのでお子様もいたら特におすすめです。 家族で行ったりチームでお祝いをしに行ったりしています。北京ダックは事前に予約が必要で、確か一羽丸ごと注文する必要があり４千バーツ弱ぐらいであったと記憶しています。メニューも豊富で全部美味しそうなので、注文しすぎてお持ち帰りしたことが何度かあります。本格飲茶を大勢でわいわい楽しみたいと言ったときにぜひお試しください。BTSスラサック駅から徒歩0分、ホテル内に駐車場もあります。 3. Pizzeria Limonciello イタリアン BTS Nana  予算 600+ THB / 一人 バンコクはおいしいイタリアンが数多くありますが、こちらは戸建ての家を改築した雰囲気の良い本格イタリアンです。名前の通りピザの種類も豊富なのですが、サラダやパスタも本格的でとても美味しいです。インテリアも南ヨーロッパ風のアーチのかかった柱があったりピザの釜戸から赤い灯が見えたり、とても落ち着く良い雰囲気です。 特に生ハムのピザをよく注文しますが、塩気の効いた美味しい生ハムと薄味の白いクリームとチーズがマッチしてとても美味しいです。バンコクは外国人の居心地が良いせいかイタリア人がオーナーであるイタリアンレストランがたくさんありどこも本格的なものが多く、東京であれば予約必須でなかなか食べられないだろうなと思うところがゴロゴロあります。Nana駅から徒歩5分、お店の前に駐車場もありますが、ピーク時は空きがないことが多いです。 4. Mexicano Restaurante Autentico メキシカン料理 - BTS Asoke 予算 600+ THB / 一人 今まで私が食べたことがあるメキシカン料理のなかで一番本格的なのが、こちらのアソークとプロンポンの間にあるレンブラントホテル内にあるメキシカーノです。名前の通り味も雰囲気も本場そのもので、こちらも何を頼んでも美味しい安定のクオリティーです。特におすすめなのが、アボカドとトマトなどを混ぜたワカモレとチップスで、アペタイザーとしても最適です。テーブルの前で作ってくれて、味見もさせてくれて好みに合わせて塩分などを調整してくれます。 コロナ前はホテルの2階にあったのですが、今はもう少し高層階に引っ越しをしてプールの目の前にお店を構えています。19時になるとライブ・バンドがラテン系の音楽を演奏してくれて、曲のリクエストなども受けてくれました。予算は少々張りますが、タイとは違ったラテンな雰囲気で美味しい本格メキシカンを楽しみたいときにはぜひお試しください。ちょうど両駅の間にあるため電車の場合少し歩きますが、BTSアソークが最寄りで徒歩10分ぐらいです。 5. Vie Ha Long ベトナム料理 - BTS Punnawithi 予算 400+ THB / 一人 無性においしいバミーやフォーが食べたいと思ったら、スクムビットのオンヌットからさらに先に行ったWhizdom 101 というショッピングモール内の3階にあるベトナム料理がおすすめです。店内のスペースはテーブルが7つぐらいしかなく決して広くはないのですが、天井が高くコージーな雰囲気で落ち着く空間です。バンコクで食べたベトナム料理のなかでは一番美味しいと思います。 たまにバミーが無性に食べたくなり、お店で食べたりGrabで頼んだりしています。外側がさくさくで中がもちもちのフランスパンの中にアジアンな味付けな牛肉や豚肉、野菜などを挟んだバミーが絶妙で、ヨーロッパとアジアのハーモニーを感じます。もちろんフォーも美味しいです。タイ料理も良いけどたまにはさっぱりしたベトナム料理が食べたい、といったときにぜひ試してみてください。BTSプンナウィティから徒歩8分ぐらいです。 以上「厳選」というタイトルの通り、これらのお店は親しい友人や家族がバンコクを訪れたときや、お仕事やプライベートでもいつもより少し美味しいものが食べたいといったときに自信をもっておすすめできるレストランです。まだご存知ない方の参考になれば幸いです。 なお、私はバンコク近郊でご自宅のお掃除などのハウスキーピングをお気軽に予約できるメイドサービスを展開しておりますので、もっと頻繁に掃除したいけど時間がない、メイドを雇いたいけどちゃんとした良い人を見つけたい、という方がおられればぜひこちらを覗いてみてください。タイで一番高いメイドのクオリティーを維持していると自負しております。 最後まで読んでいただき、有難うございました。 === 依田大吾 Bluuu 代表取締役

Welcome to the complete guide to getting a Thai motorcycle license in Bangkok for foreigners! I just got mine last week, so I wanted to share before I forget. The whole process including documentations shouldn’t take more than a few weeks, but it can be confusing since Thai governments don’t give official guidelines. So I hope this information is helpful to many.  Required documents: Certificate of residence:  You can get this from your embassy or immigration office. I got mine from the embassy of Japan. At the embassy, I couldn’t get the certificate on the same day, and had to come back a few days later to pick up the document. Required lead times might depend on embassies so you’ll need to check your respective embassy.  Medical certificate:  You can get this at a clinic right next to the Department of Land Transport (on the day of the appointment) in Mochit for 150 thb. It’s just formality and anyone with four limbs should pass. You can get this at any hospital or clinic, but if you go to high-end ones, it could easily cost you 5-10 times more, so just go to this one. It’s a worn down “clinic” but it doesn’t matter. There’re usually several locals queuing up but you should be able to get it within 30 min. Date of issue needs to be within 30 days from the exam date, so don't get this too early. คลินิกแพทย์หญิงลำดวน (Dr Lamduan) ID photos (2.5 x 3.25 cm):  They aren’t too picky about photo sizes. Just bring a few ID photos.  Passport and copies:  Bring the original passport and copies of the first page and the visa pages.  Note: It seems that the number of remaining months on your visa matters. I have a spouse visa, and I was scheduled to renew it soon, and was told at the counter at Department of Land (building 4) that it’s better to apply after renewing my annual visa, because the remaining months were less than 3 months. It could have been because I had an expired Thai motorcycle license already (expired more than 3 years) and was re-applying. The lady at the counter said if I applied after renewing my visa, I’d get a 5 years license, but if before renewing my visa, I’d only get 2 years.  Application steps: Book an exam appointment with the Department of Land Transport (DLT) You need to book an exam appointment with the DLT in advance. They do have an app for this called DLT smart queue, but they never work. I tried it but couldn’t find Mochit in it and everything IT related with the Thai government rarely works, so it’s usually just better to just do it the old fashion way and show up at the DLT building 4 counter for foreigners on the first floor. If you ask for a motorcycle exam appointment, they’ll make a booking for you on the spot. They have exams every Mon, Wed, Fri from 8:30am (must register by 8:00-8:30am).   Day 1 physical test and online exam 7:30 - Got a medical certificate from the clinic (ex Dr Lamduan) near DLT in Mochit.  8:00 - Registered at DLT building 4 counter for foreigners on the first floor (on the right after entrance) 8:30 - Got to 2nd floor, wait to be called, then went to 4th floor to take tests for color vision, distance perception, brake response, and peripheral vision. These tests are basic and easy. If you have the ability to drive normally, everyone should pass.  Color vision:  Call out the signal colors in English (red, yellow, green) Distance perception:  Push button to move stick on the left to roughly align with a static stick on the right Brake response:  Step on the brake pedal within given time which was around 1 second, which is plenty of time Peripheral vision:  Place head on chin rest, call out left or right while looking straight ahead when you see a white circle appear on each side 9:00 - Waited in a video room for a half hour with around several other foreigners before a 3 hour video training starts. It’s in Thai language but has English subtitles.  12:00 - Lunch break. Can eat in canteens in DLT. The one right next to building 4 didn’t look so appetizing so I walked 5 min to another canteen closer to the station, which had more options. There’s an Amazon cafe there too. 13:00 - Staff instructed us to practice an online exam by using a QR code link on the wall. Practice the online exam for about 90 min. This helped me a lot, because you can check where you got wrong, and why, and learn on the spot. I probably practiced the full test 4-5 times, which helped me pass the exam on my first try. Without this, I’m sure I would have failed.  Online practice test provided by DLT https://www.thaidriveexam.com/testExam-type-carbike https://www.thaidriveexam.com Other external practice links https://thaidrivingtest.com/ > This was the most useful 3rd party exam. Just practice this until you ace all the questions.  https://www.driving-exam-thailand.com/en > Also did this a couple of times. Was somewhat useful, since some questions were different from the above link. 14:45 - Online exam started. You need to score at least 45 out of 50 to pass. You have 50 min but most people finish within about 30 min, because you either know the answer or you don’t. If you fail, you can retake the test up to twice per day, but on this day, they said we only have one shot and have to come back another day if we failed, because it was already late in the afternoon.   15:15 - Passed exam. I barely passed with exactly 45/50. So again, practicing with external practice exams before the exam date and re-practicing with the official practice exam right before the exam is key to save time. Right after passing the online exam, I was told to come on another day to take the riding test. No appointment required, registration times are 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00. The motorcycle riding test course is right next to DLT building 4 after walking towards the main gate towards where you came from on BTS. It’s a small hut with a small motorcycle driving course.  Day 2 Riding test 8:30 - I came the next day. Unfortunately it was raining, so we had to wait until the rain cleared.  9:10 - Registered in the hut next to the small motorcycle driving course. Paid 50 thb to rent a motorcycle. Watched a 5 min video on endless repeat until enough people registered to start the riding test. 9:45 - Road test started. Basically 2 tests: balance test and stop sign test.  Balance test:  You need to ride straight across a 10m strip, 30cm wide and 5 cm high, without falling off the strip. If you stay calm and drive slowly and carefully, you should be able to pass. If you fall, you are given one more chance, but if you fall twice, you need to retest on another date. Out of about a dozen participants, one westerner who had 30 years of motorcycle driving failed, so do be careful and don't be over confident. Stop sign test: You are instructed to drive a short course with around 5 stops. You just need to make sure you know what a stop sign looks like, where they are, and to make sure you make a full stop at each stop. Pay attention when the instructor explains where to stop and where other participants are stopping when they go before you. So it’s probably better not to be first to go if you are not sure. 10:15 - Go back to DLT building 4’s 2nd floor where the many booths are, take a photo, license issued. So that’s how I got my Thai motorcycle license. Finally, I just want to state the obvious that driving in Thailand is 10 times more deadly than in your home country. Always wear a helmet (preferably full face), wear as much protective gear as you can, drive like every car is out to get you, and pretend that you’re invisible, because you kind of are and that’s how people get killed. Don’t be fooled by locals riding around without helmets and on sandals because we don’t see the dead or the injured, and trust me there are many. どのようにして候補者から良いメイドを選び、採用しているか メイドの品質管理 - どのようにして採用者から悪いメイドを選び、除外しているか この２点以外にも研修がありますが、どのサービスも半日から１日程度の研修に留まっており、また平均年齢40-50代と高めであるメイドが短期間で大きく変化できるとは思えませんので、今回の比較基準からは除外しています。 一点目の採用方法については、そもそも誰を採用するか・しないかを左右するものですので、メイドの品質を決めるうえでとても重要です。この採用方法という項目を、さらに細かく分解していくと、大きく以下の３点となります。 実務経験の確認：家事代行は一見簡単に見えますが、限られた時間内で効率的に終えるにはそれなりの経験が必要です。また経験が全くない人はそもそも動機が不明確であったり思い入れがなかったりしますので、経験によってふるいにかけることはサービスのクオリティーに大きな影響を与えます。 採用面接：面接での対話により、この人は親切か、責任感はあるか、フレンドリーか、信頼できそうかなど、候補者について多くの情報を得ることができます。家事代行は自宅という最もプライベートな空間に他人を入れる訳ですからとても重要です。 犯罪歴の確認：タイでは警察本部にて誰でも自身の犯罪歴を参照することができます。当然犯罪歴のある見知らぬ他人はご自宅に入れるべきではありませんので、これも非常に重要なステップとなります。犯罪歴についてはどのサービスも確認していると謳っていますが、カラクリがありますので後ほど詳しくご説明します。 メイドの品質を決める要素として、メイドの採用方法の他にはメイドの品質管理（例えば解雇率など）があります。実務経験があり、面接に合格し、犯罪歴がなくても、家事ができない人はいますので、仕事ができないメイドを出来るだけ素早くかつ正確に見極めて辞めてもらうこともメイドの品質に大きく影響します。 ところがタイにおける殆どの家事代行サービスは、かなり解雇率が緩いか、余程のことがないと解雇しないのが現実です。角が立つことをしないタイの文化もあるのかも知れませんが、おそらくはメイドから入会金を取得しているため、余程のことがありきちんと説明責任を果たせない場合以外は解雇できないのではと思います。 ということで長々と書きましたが、以下が結論です。もちろんbluuuの経営者としてバイアスはありますが、各々の評価基準と根拠をご理解いただくと、納得感があるのではないでしょうか。 メイドの品質による評価結果 採用にあたり実務経験を必須としているサービスはBluuuのみで、他全サービスは全くの初心者でも採用し、半日から１日程度の研修をして業務を開始させています。 候補者を事前に面接して経験不足な人、信頼できない人をふるいにかけているのもBluuuのみで、他全サービスは面接すらせず応募者を全員採用しています。４年前に創業した当初、この事実はかなり驚きでしたが、他サービスは未だに同じ方針です。 犯罪歴チェックにおいて如何なる犯罪歴も一切容認しない方針をもつのもおそらくbluuuのみで、他サービスでは窃盗や傷害などの重大な犯罪歴以外（例えば賭博など）は容認している可能性が高いです。 その根拠として、私は創業以来1000人以上の候補者を面接していますが、その過程で犯罪歴があるのに他サービスで働いていた経験をもつ候補者を数多く見てきています。警察本部発行の書類には、犯罪歴の内容とともに日付も記載されており、その日付が他サービスで働く何年も前のものであったことが何度もあり、他サービスが賭博や偽造品の販売など軽微と判断する内容であれば構わず採用していたことが分かりました。 Bluuuではこのようなことは絶対にせず、犯罪歴の種類に関わらず採用をお断りしています。なぜならば犯罪内容に関わらず、犯罪歴がある者は再犯する可能性が高いと考えているためです。例えば賭博などで捕まっている人は、ギャンブル癖があり、また金銭トラブルを起こし、結果窃盗などに走る可能性も上がるわけです。 具体的なサービス名をここで晒すようなことはいたしませんが、私から言えることはおそらくタイにおけるほとんどのサービスはこのような方針であるということです。また彼らは「犯罪歴を確認している」と謳っているだけで「如何なる犯罪歴も容認しない」とは言っていませんので嘘はついていません。ただこの事実は、全てのお客様が知っておくべきことだとは思います。 また厳しい基準による高い解雇率を維持しているのもbluuuのみで、その根拠に候補者から入会金を一切取得していないのもbluuuのみということがあります。入会金を一度取得してまうと、解雇する際に説明責任を納得のいく形で果たす必要があり、犯罪や証拠などの余程の理由がないと逆にメイドからクレームされてしまい解雇し難くなります。bluuuでは独自の方法でメイドのパフォーマスを細かくモニターしており、Bluuuの基準を満たしていないと思われるメイドは証拠の有無などに関わらず即刻辞めてもらっています。 では高い解雇率によってメイドの品質を向上できるのであれば、なぜ他サービスも同じことをしないのか？と思われた方もいるかも知れません。その答えは、一言でいうとメイドの採用は非常にコストも手間もかかり、サービス提供側としては、せっかく採用したメイドを安易に解雇したくないという事情があります。採用広告、面接、評価、研修などは、コストも手間も相当かかります。bluuuはメイドの品質を最重要視していますので、必要な投資だと思って行っておりますが、こういった理由で他サービスはそう簡単には真似ができない訳です。 Bluuu以外でメイドの品質をそこそこ保てているのはBeneatぐらいでしょうか。このサービスは研修に重きを置いていて、品質管理もある程度行っているように見えますが、面接は一切行っておらず、また実務経験も必要としていませんので、他全サービス同様に全候補者を研修に招待して、そのあとお客様の評価によってふるいにかけています。ただ、この方式だとやはりこういった品質の悪いメイドに運悪く当たってしまったお客様の犠牲のうえに成り立っていることは理解しておく必要があります。 ２．テクノロジーや利便性 予約機能や利便性においても、メイドの評価基準を平均スコア（5段階）に加えて再予約率などの評価基準などを明瞭に開示し、選び易くしているのもBluuuのみで、現時点で多くのサービスではメイドすら選ぶことができません。家政婦はGrabのドライバーなどとは違い、早く来れれば誰でも良いというわけにはいきませんので、メイドをしっかり評価・比較できることは必須と思うのですが、こういった基本的な機能がない、あるいは充実していないサイトが多いです。 また定期的にご利用されるお客様向けに各サービスに「パッケージ」という選択肢がありますが、パッケージの購入、予約の追加・更新、メイドの変更など全てオンラインで完結できるのもbluuuのみで、他サービスでは営業担当者と電話などで話し、メイドの予定などをオフラインで確認する必要があります。 ３．価格 Bluuuは価格においても、パッケージ割引が5-18% と最も割引率が高くなっています。他サービスは最大5-7%の割引率です。 また bluuu はお掃除道具込みとお掃除道具なしに料金体系を分けている唯一のサービスで、定期的にご利用いただきお掃除道具も自前のものを使ってコストを下げることが可能ですが、他全サービスはデフォルトでお掃除道具が込みとなってしまっており、お掃除道具なしという選択肢はありません。 パッケージ以外の一回のみの予約でも、最も安いサービス提供者との価格差は10-20% 程度で、メイドの品質の違いや予約の利便性などを考えると、大きな差ではないのではないでしょうか。また価格が低いということは、メイドが受け取る給与も当然低くくなりますので、そういった安いサービスには良いメイドさんが集まらず、bluuuのように給与が高いサービスに転職してくる傾向にもあります。 その他の評価結果 総メイド数を公開しているサービスもbluuuのみとなります。他全サービスではなぜか登録メイド数を公開しておらず、実際メイドが何人働いているのか分かりません。ただ、タイの税務署が公開している売上高などの情報を確認した限り、実働メイド数が100人を超えるサービスは現時点でおそらくBluuu, Beneat, Seeksterの3社のみと思われます。 提供地域については、殆どのオンライン・メイドサービスは、バンコクとその近郊（バンコク都、サムットプラカーン県、ノンタブリー県、パトゥムターニー県）でサービスを展開しています。Beneatはチェンマイ県、チョンブリ県でも提供しており、Seeksterはパタヤ市、チェンマイ県、ブンカーン県、カラシン県でも提供していますので、そちらにお住まいの方はご利用可能です。 創業年数については、Beneat及びSeeksterがもっとも長くそれぞれ2016年と2015年に創業されており、Knockdoorは2017年の創業です。bluuu及びBtaskeeは比較的新しく2021年に創業されましたが、この中ではおそらくbluuuが最も速く成長しており、顧客継続率なども非常に高い水準を維持できております。 ほぼ全サービスはタイ資本による会社ですが、Btaskeeのみベトナムの企業でタイに進出した形となっております。 まとめ 少し長くなってしまいましたが、いかがでしたでしょうか？なぜbluuuのメイドの品質が高く、多くのお客様にご愛顧いただけているかが、少しお分かりいただけたのではないかと思います。 最後にお伝えしておきたいのですが、この記事を書くにあたり他サービスを批判することは目的としてはおらず、できるだけ他社様に配慮する形で自ら経験した事実だけに基づいて書くように心がけました。まだ始まったばかりの零細な業界ですので、この記事が業界全体の改善の一助となれば幸いです。 bluuuでの家事代行のご利用にご興味がありましたら、ぜひこちらから弊社のウェブサイトをご覧くださいませ。最後までお読みいただきありがとうございました。 === 依田大吾 Bluuu 代表取締役

How many hours should I book to clean my home?  This obviously varies home by home, because it depends on a variety of factors like how frequently you clean, how many things you have, how organized they are, how dirty they are, etc.  But there is a very simple way to give you a rough estimation of how much it should normally take to get most of the work done. I’m the owner of a top online maid service in Thailand, so I know from first hand experience how long on average it takes our maids to clean customers’ homes, so this information should be reliable. How to calculate the number of hours required to clean your home The minimum number of hours required to clean a home on a regular basis (ex. cleaning 2-3 times per week) can be calculated by below: # of bedrooms + 2 hours = # of hours required to clean Note:  # of bedrooms can be replaced by # of bathrooms since usually those two should be the same.  Example 1: For a 2 bedroom condo, the minimum is 4 hrs (2 bedroom + 2 hrs = 4 hrs) Example 2: For a 4 bedroom house, the minimum is 6 hrs (4 bedrooms + 2hrs = 6 hrs) This is for general and regular cleaning of your home, such as washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, kitchen, changing bed linens, etc, but it doesn’t include ironing, so if you have clothes to iron, please add 1-2 hrs on top of this depending on the amount of clothes to iron.  This is how our website recommends the number of hours to book and it has been a very good rule of thumb in judging how many hours to book at a minimum.  How the number of hours required could be reduced The actual number of hours required may vary depending on the frequency of cleaning, so if you clean your home more than 3 times per week, then the number of hours required per time should decrease, so for a 2 bedroom condo which normally requires minimum 4 hrs per time, it may be possible to complete in 3 hrs, if cleaned 5-6 times per week which is almost everyday.  Another factor to consider is the learning curve of the maids. After working for many months at your home, your maid will get used to working there, learn where your equipment is, how to use them, how you organize things, etc, and will start to develop muscle memory and work more efficiently. This could also reduce the number of hours required per time over time.  How NOT to use this method Not applicable for big cleaning This is a general rule of thumb for cleaning your home on a regular basis, at least 1-2 times a week, and doesn’t apply to big cleaning jobs such as cleaning after moving out, before moving in, after renovations, or after not cleaning for many weeks or even months. Big cleaning normally requires a team of cleaners, for instance 3-4 people, for at least half or a whole day, with special equipment for removing deep stains, and the price would be at least 5,000 thb. So this formula is not applicable for this type of work, which is completely different from general housekeeping. Don’t squeeze your maids Having worked with thousands of customers on our platform, I’ve seen some customers try to squeeze the maids as much as possible by booking less than this recommended number of hours and pressuring them to work faster and harder. It usually doesn’t end well with customers like this as even our best maids are humans too and need time to breathe, so even our best maids tend to burn out and eventually reject work from these customers as it becomes too stressful. Then these customers have to choose from less capable maids or keep trying new maids as no one would want to continue working for them. So please be kind to your maids, and in return, they will be more loyal to you, and that will make your life much easier in the long run.  I hope this article was helpful. If there was a magic wand that lets you find the best quality maid before actually booking them online, would you want to use it? If yes please read on, because I’ll explain how you can actually do this. It’s not rocket science, but I think you will learn something new and useful, because I’m the owner of a top online maid service in Thailand, and have interviewed thousands, trained hundreds, and have banned countless maids, so I can say that I have experience in this field, and quite possibly one of the most knowledgeable on this topic in Thailand! Don't use services that don’t let you choose maids First, there are many online maid services out there that don’t even let you choose maids. If that’s the case, I would not recommend using it, because not only is it a potluck with who you end up with, it also means that the quality of overall maids is very poor. Because if customers can’t choose a maid, good maids and bad maids will get equal amounts of work, and so there is no incentive for maids to improve. Whether they slack off or work hard, they get equal pay. Because of this, what actually happens is that good maids will leave these platforms and join platforms like ours that give more work to better performing maids, because they can earn much more with us. So not only is it potluck, those platforms will tend to have a ton of bad performing maids, so the chance of getting bad maids is even higher. So stay far far away from websites that don’t even let you choose maids. Surprisingly, the majority of online maid services in Thailand don’t let you choose maids. Average scores are not that useful So let’s say you found a website that lets you choose maids after reviewing their profiles, most people will look at average scores. Usually scores are given on a 5 point scale, and users will try to choose maids who have high average scores, between say 4.8-5.0. These scores are useful in weeding out bad maids, say who score below or around 4.0. But average scores don’t allow you to select the best performing maids, because maids with an average score of 5.0 can still turn out to be somewhat mediocre. After managing hundreds of maids on our platform, I learned that some maids with high average scores, or even perfect 5.0 scores, didn’t have regular customers. When I looked into what kind of maids those were, they were usually maids who had nice likeable personalities, who were polite, on time, but their cleaning skills were not necessarily outstanding. Those maids could get 5 stars, but not many customers would book again. So average scores can tell you which maids are bad, but they won’t necessarily tell you which maids are great.  Choose maids with high repeat rate So if average scores aren’t that useful in finding great maids, what is? The answer is “Repeat Rate”. Very few online maid services in Thailand disclose or probably even track these numbers, but this is essential in finding good quality maids, because if customers are not satisfied, they will not choose the same maid. The question then is, what is a good repeat rate? This is a bit tricky because it also depends on the tenure of the maid, since obviously all new maids will start with a repeat rate of 0% and it takes at least a few months to increase since some customers might not book so often. But generally speaking, a repeat rate above 70% is excellent, above 50% is good, below 50% is still okay for relatively new maids (ex. less than 3-4 months). However, a repeat rate below 20-30% for non-new maids (ex. more than 4 months) is usually not a good sign. So if you want to make sure you get a good maid, try to look for 50+% for non-new maids and at least 20-30+% repeat rate for new maids. Choose maids with raving comments Another useful tip in finding great maids is by checking if reviews have comments. Because if a customer goes through the effort of not only giving scores, but of writing a review, that shows a lot about how satisfied they are. For example, a 5 star score with no comment, might be a customer who thought the service was okay and wanted to thank the maid, but not necessarily impressed. But if a customer was impressed, they will want other customers to know how great the service was, and tend to make the effort of expressing their emotions by writing raving comments like “I will definitely use her service again” or “Highly recommended”. You actually don’t even have to read all the comments, but just pay attention to how many people took the effort to actually write something. So if you can’t read comments written in Thai, it really doesn’t matter! One caveat is that regular customers who give scores frequently to the same maid, may no longer write comments, so keep in mind that doesn’t necessarily mean those customers aren’t impressed.  Choose high ranking maids As of this writing, Bluuu is probably the only online maid service that ranks maids by gold, silver, bronze status levels, and this is another way you can quickly find good quality maids. Each maid level has minimum thresholds by performance indicators such as scores and number of ratings, so by this way, you can quickly browse through the most proven maids. The only caveat is that higher ranked maids will tend to already have many regular customers, so their availability may be limited, so if you’re trying to find a maid who can come on a frequent basis or if you have limited available day/time of the week, then you might be better off looking for newer maids who haven’t yet risen through the ranks but are of good quality. Choose the rising stars with availability If you couldn’t find a convenient date/time with higher ranked maids, then the best way is to choose the rising stars among new maids who usually have much more available dates to choose from. Unfortunately this won’t be possible on many other websites, but on Bluuu, we have the “Recommended maids” section on top of our maids page, listing the most recommended maids from our pool of new maids. We choose these maids carefully from a variety of performance indicators like average score, raving comments, repeat rate, interview and training performance, and other indicators which we can’t fully disclose. We don’t list maids just because they’ve received 5 stars, so they’re usually quite reliable and I highly recommend choosing maids from this section at the top of the maid page.   Choose maids who are closer  Another important thing to consider in choosing good maids, is to choose from the maids who are closer to you. You might be wondering what that has to do with the quality of maids. Well, distance actually could impact the maids’ performance, because maids pay their own commuting expense, so the more the commuting expense, the less profit they are left with. So if you select a maid that is closest to you, you are effectively maximizing your maid’s salary (=profit) and so she has even more incentives to work hard for you and to make you happy, and can end up being a great maid instead of a so-so one.   Ask a customer service representative (admin) for recommendations My last tip is to quite simply ask the customer service representative for maid recommendations. If an online maid service’s response to your request was “Sorry, we don’t recommend specific maids, all of our maids are equally good!”, then this actually means “We don’t care about the quality of maids”, so I wouldn’t recommend using it. At Bluuu, our customer service will be eager to recommend good maids to you because we have so much more information than you do. We’ve interviewed them, trained them, talked to them when there were issues or feedback from customers, and kept track of all performance indicators (which is not just average scores and repeat rate) which we can’t fully discuss here since it’s our secret sauce. But my point is that it’s the quickest and easiest way of getting the most up-to-date information on who are actually the best maids.  That’s it! I hope you learned something new. バンコクで会社経営をしている在住歴8年以上の日本人によるおすすめ日本食レストランのご紹介です。いつもは英語かタイ語でこのブログを書いていますが、今回は初めて日本語でのご紹介となります。 ここ最近タイでは、絶賛日本食ブーム中でして、タイ全土で700店ぐらいだった日本食レストランの数は、ここ10年ちょっとで5,000店以上に急増しているようです。ですので、この10選はトップ10でもなんでもありませんが、私の独断と偏見で良質な日本食を予算一人500バーツ以下の手頃な価格で提供しているところを選んでみました。 またこの10選はおすすめ度での順位付けというよりは、以下のようにグループ分けをしています。 1−5　日本人オーナーさんによる純度の高い日本食を提供しているところ 6–7　タイ人オーナーさんだけど日本人でも十分美味しいと感じるところ 8-10　オーナーさんの国籍に関わらずバンコクで何店舗か展開しているところ なお、今回のおすすめリストには大型チェーン店は含めていません。例えばタイ経営のFujiやZen、日本から進出しているSushiro, Otoya, Yayoi, Pepper Lunchなどは、わりとどこでも見つけられますのであえて含めず一店舗か少数店舗で展開しているところのみを選びました。 1. Misato (味里) - Silom・サラデーン駅徒歩3分 タイで食べた日本食のなかで一番純度が高く、日本のクオリティーを感じたお店がこちら。シーロムのチャーン・イッサラ・タワーというビルの１階にあり、外から中が見えないため勇気がいるのですが、すべてが日本のクオリティーで満足度100％でした！タイ在住歴が長いご年配な日本人の方がいまだに厨房に立たれているようで、それ故にこのクオリティーなのだと思います。タイでは見ないおしぼりが出たり、枝豆の湯で具合がちょうど良かったりと、東京でも美味しいと思える味です。カツカレー、天ぷら、うどん、刺し身など、わりとなんでも揃っていて、予算一人300−400バーツです。 2. Torihada (鳥波多) - PhromPhong・プロンポン駅徒歩5分 焼き鳥で一番美味しかったのはここで、東京でも十分勝負できる味でした。というか、なぜか鶏肉は日本よりもタイのほうが美味しいと感じることが多く、東京より美味しいかもしれません。気候が良いのか育て方が良いのか理由は分かりませんが、タイの鶏肉はジューシーで味がしっかりしている印象です。ハツ、砂肝、かわ、つくねなどなんでも揃っていて、炭火焼でしっかり旨味を引き出しています。店内は掘りごたつもある居酒屋スタイルでお酒も各種ありますが、家族連れでも全然入れます。お酒抜きで予算一人400−500バーツ程度です。 3. Suikin (水琴) - Silom・サラデーン駅徒歩3分 私は接待など皆無なのですが、接待でも使えて非常にクオリティーの高い日本食が食べられるのがシーロムのラマランドビルの22階にあるこちら。以前はチッドロムの厳かな一軒家に入っていたのですが、数年前にこちらに引っ越しています。予算一人500バーツ以上で、落ち着いた雰囲気で、食器も料理に合わせて選んでおり、店員さんは着物を着ていて高級な感じですが、家族で来てもOKです。ビジネスや特別な日に来るのもいいですし、いつもよりちょっと美味しいものが食べたいってときにおすすめです。 4. Okinawa Kinjo (沖縄食堂 金城) - PhraKhanong・プラカノン駅徒歩1分 バンコクで唯一？の沖縄料理。ソーキそば、ゴーヤチャンプルーなど、おなじみの美味しい沖縄料理を、カジュアルな雰囲気で一人300-400バーツ程度で楽しめます。店内にはすべて沖縄関連のポスターが貼られ、テレビには白黒のレトロな映像が流れていて、トロピカルなムードがタイのスローライフとマッチしていてとても居心地が良いです。駐車場はないので、車で来られる場合は向かいのサマーポイントで駐車すると少し割引してくれます。無性に沖縄料理が食べたくなったときや、いつもとは違う日本食が食べたい！ってときにおすすめです。 5. Isshin (そば割烹 一芯) - PhromPhong・プロンポン駅徒歩5分 東京の郊外にありそうな雰囲気のお店ですが、料理も家庭的な味で美味しいです。メニューにもよりますが、予算一人300-500バーツぐらいで、家族で行っても楽しめると思います。大戸屋のような完成された味ではなく家庭的なところが好きで、たまにGrabでも注文しています。一人でも家族でも、気軽に食べたいけどチェーン店は飽きたなって方は試してみてください。 6. The Japan restaurant - Chong Nonsi・チョンノンシー駅徒歩2分 タイ人の女性がオーナーさんで、メニューによっては少し日本と違うと感じる箇所はところどころありますが、コスパが高く特にちらし寿司やサーモンなどのお魚が新鮮で美味しくおすすめです。日本人会の真隣にあり、平日のお昼はいつも近くのオフィスで働く日本人やタイ人がたくさん並んでいて15-20分ほどの待ち時間が必要です。予算は一人200−300バーツで、日本食のなかではかなりお得なほうだと思います。 7. Aoi (葵) - Silom, Paragon, Emporium・サラデーン駅徒歩5分、パラゴン、エンポリアム タイ人経営のなかで一番純度が高い日本食を提供しているのがこちら。店員さんは着物をきて、店内は琴の伝統的なBGMが流れ、日本のお正月のような雰囲気です。予算は少し高めで一人400-600バーツほど。とくにおすすめなのが、900バーツで2−3人分頼めるうどんすきで、出汁がおいしく、魚介類や野菜も新鮮で、栄養価も満足度も高いです。とんかつのソースだけやたら甘く感じましたが、全体的にクオリティーはとても高いです。本店はシーロムの3階建ての小ビルにありますが、パラゴンやエンポリアムにも入っています。 8. Ramen tei (らあめん亭) - PhromPhong, Silom B級グルメ系の日本食で一番のおすすめはこちら。バンコク在住でしたらご存知な方も多いと思いますが、麻婆豆腐、餃子、チャーハンなど、下町グルメでは一番美味しいと思います。手際よく調理する厨房がカウンターから見え、店員さんの掛け声など、活気あふれる感じが好きです。油は多めですので、がっつり食べたいときにおすすめです。家族でも一人でも気軽に入れます。プロンポンエリアだけでも3店舗ありますが、シーロムにも1店舗あります。 9. Hokkaido Butadon Tokachi (北海道豚丼とかち) - Sathorn, Silom, Rama9・チョンノンシー駅徒歩5分、ルンピニー駅徒歩5分、ペッチャブリー駅徒歩2分 北海道でも人気な豚丼十勝を、旅行で訪れた際に一目惚れしたタイ人の女性オーナーさんがバンコクに持ち込んで展開されているお店です。本店直伝の甘辛いタレの美味しい豚丼が200-300バーツのお手頃価格で楽しめます。セットのお味噌汁やキャベツサラダにかかったトウモコロシのドレッシングも美味しいです。タイでは珍しいエイヒレもあり、マヨネーズと食べると東京でのサラリーマン時代を思い出します。主にシーロムやサトーンエリアで複数店舗を展開していますが、ラマ9にも1店舗あります。 10. I am a Japanese expat and a business owner in Thailand who’s lived in Bangkok for over eight years. Here is my list of 10 most recommended Japanese restaurants in central Bangkok serving a variety of authentic Japanese dishes.  Japanese food has been quite a boom here in Thailand, and I’ve heard the number of Japanese restaurants have increased by a whopping 10 fold just within this decade! So this list is definitely not exhaustive and there’re many more great restaurants serving quality Japanese food, but these are my most recommended list of delicious Japanese food with a budget below 500 baht per person.  This is not ranked in order of preference but rather grouped for your convenience. 1-5 are the most authentic Japanese restaurants managed by Japanese owners. 6-7 are Thai owned. 8-10 are semi-chain restaurants with several branches. I didn’t include large chain restaurants like Fuji, Zen, Otoya, Yayoi, Hachiban, Pepper Lunch, etc, or other Tonkatsu specific chains, because you can find them pretty much anywhere and probably need no introduction for most of you.  1. Misato (味里) - Silom The most authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve eaten in Thailand. Managed and operated by a senior Japanese chef who’s lived here for decades. The taste is as authentic as it gets. It's hard to find this quality even in my home town Tokyo. The chef still cooks, which is probably why the quality is so high. Menus include a full variety of Japanese dishes like katsu curry, tempura, udon, sashimi, etc. Edamame is cooked just right. Wet hand towels are served just like in Japan. Located on the 1st floor of Charn Issara Tower in Silom. The exterior doesn’t stand out and you can’t see the inside, so it takes courage to go in, but you will not be disappointed. Budget around 300-400 baht per person. 2. Torihada (鳥波多) - PhromPhong The best Yakitori in Thailand, perhaps even better than in Tokyo. Not sure why but chicken seems to taste better here than in Japan. Perhaps because they’re grown better or maybe because of the weather? Whatever the reason, yakitori here sure tastes great. Wide variety of chicken parts to choose from, all charcoal grilled. It’s izakaya style so they have a good selection of alcohol like shochu and sake, but families can go too. The budget will be closer to 400-500 baht per person but satisfaction is guaranteed and worth every baht. The staff are well trained and makes you forget that you’re in Bangkok. 3. Suikin (水琴) - Silom One of the highest quality Japanese restaurants but still within affordable pricing at around 500+ baht per person, with lunch sets that are more reasonably priced at around 300 baht. Located on 22nd floor of Ramaland Building in Silom. The atmosphere is quiet and high-so, even suitable for business meals with clients, but not too high-so, because you can come with families too. Waitresses are dressed in authentic kimono, dishes are carefully selected to not just taste great but look great too. They used to be in a house near Chidlom but moved to this building. Japanese businessmen use this place too.  4. Okinawa Kinjo (沖縄食堂 金城) - PhraKhanong The best Okinawan food in town, serving authentic dishes like soki soba (pork soup noodles) and goya chanpuru (stir fried bitter gourd and pork). The atmosphere has a more local and casual vibe. The budget can vary but is generally around 300-400 baht per person. Posters on the walls are all about tropical Okinawa and the slow life vibe definitely matches that of Thailand. There is no parking lot, but you can park at Summerpoint across the street. Just a 1 min walk from BTS PhraKhanong.  5. Isshin (そば割烹 一芯) - PhromPhong The most local vibed Japanese restaurant, serving authentic Japanese dishes at very reasonable price. The smell and atmosphere makes you feel like you’re in a local restaurant in the suburbs of Tokyo. The budget is around 300-500 baht depending on what you order. It has a home-made family Japanese dish vibe. I sometimes order their bento boxes by Grab. Only a few minutes walk from BTS PhromPhong, which is where most Japanese expats live, so you’ll see many Japanese families eating here.  6. The Japan restaurant - Chong Nonsi The most cost efficient Japanese restaurant that provides high quality sashimi among other traditional Japanese dishes is located right next to the Japanese Association of Thailand near BTS Chong Nonsi, Sathorn. The owner is a Thai lady so a Japanese may notice some local twist in some dishes, but the sashimi and fish quality here is particularly good. Likely the highest bang for your buck at around 200-300 baht per person. Weekday lunch times are packed with both Japanese and Thai office workers and will require 15-20 min wait. 7. Aoi (葵) - Silom, Paragon, Emporium The most authentic Thai owned Japanese restaurant in Thailand where waitresses are dressed in traditional kimono. Price can vary between 400-600+ baht per person. I particularly recommend the “Udon suki” set for 900 baht for 2-3 people. Fish broth is authentic, with fresh high quality vegetables, meat and other fresh seafoods. Their original 3 storey restaurant is located in Silom, but they also have 2 other branches in Paragon and Emporium. Interior decoration is high quality authentic Japanese and makes you feel the Japanese new year vibes with traditional musical instruments playing in the background.  8. Ramen tei (らあめん亭) - PhromPhong, Silom The best B-grade Japanese gourmet food like ramen, fried rice, mabo-tofu, fried chicken, are served here with a budget around 250-300 baht per person. We call local foods like these “B-grade” because they are usually quick to order and not as expensive as other top tier dishes like sushi. As the name suggests, it’ll be a bit more oily than other Japanese dishes. Family friendly. Has an open kitchen in the center to see and feel the energy of the chefs cooking actions while you wait for your food. They have 3 branches just in PhromPhong since most Japanese expats live there, but they also have 1 more in Silom.  9. Hokkaido Butadon Tokachi (北海道豚丼とかち) - Silom, Sathorn, Rama9 The most successful pork rice bowl local chain in Thailand, serving the same pork rice bowl recipe from its original brand in Hokkaido. The owner is another Thai lady who has traveled to Hokkaido, and was so inspired by the taste that she negotiated to bring them into Thailand. The price is reasonable around 200-300 baht per person. Set meal is served with miso soup and small cabbage salad with tasty corn dressing. Yakitori grilled chicken are also delicious. They even have dried stingray fin called “ei-hi-re” which is sweet and salty eaten with mayonnaise, usually served in izakaya. They currently have 5 branches around Silom, Sathorn, and Rama9. 10. Shiko Udon Bar (至高) - Sathorn, Silom, Chidlom The most delicious and authentic udon soup broth you can find in Thailand, by this new udon restaurant launched in Thailand only a few years ago. Authentic fish soup broth outside of Japan is usually very hard to find except at premium Japanese restaurants serving expensive sushi, but the udon soup here has the most authentic and delicious taste that I’ve ever had outside of Japan. I particularly like the kamo (duck) udon, where the smokey and aromatic duck meat matches the high quality smokey soup broth perfectly. Other dishes were also delicious and tasty.
